Shabaka and the Ancestors is a British jazz group led by Shabaka Hutchings (born in London in 1984). Hutchings is also known for his work with Pete Wareham’s band Melt Yourself Down and for performing with the Sun Ra Arkestra in 2014. The group’s debut album, "Wisdom of Elders", was released in 2016. For this project, Hutchings worked with musicians based in Johannesburg and further developed a style associated with spiritual jazz, a genre partly influenced by Sun Ra.
